Solid Waste Management

A. Project Objective:

  • Improve the efficiency of SWM system in the city.
  • Establishment and operation of an efficient secondary collection and transportation system
  • Processing facility to ensure segregation and treatment of waste
  • Scientific disposal of rejects.
  • comply with the SWM Rules, 2016 on scientific treatment and disposal

B. Project Capacity:

  • The total generation of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) at Berhampur was projected at 174 TPD for the year 2018 which is expected to increase to 326 TPD by the year 2037.
  • The Bio-degradable waste as per the physical composition of MSW at Berhampur is 70 % of the total MSW.
  • The average waste needed to be diverted for composting would be around 149 TPD during the year 2018. Accordingly, Environmental Clearance has been obtained for 150 TPD.
  • The plant has been designed to process 150 TPD of Solid Waste in the initial year and upgrade the capacity to 300 TPD with increase in waste generation.

C. Implementation Mode :

Design, Built, Operate and Transfer (DBOT) with O&M period for 20 years.
